Drug Use - Important Information for Tenants
Cannabis use in council properties or buildings and communal areas (including gardens) is illegal.
We want your home to be a safe, comfortable, and welcoming space. To maintain this for everyone, it’s important to know that smoking cannabis (or using any other illegal substance) in council properties is against the law and goes against your tenancy agreement.
Did you know?
- Smoking cannabis is still illegal in the UK. Using cannabis in any SBC property, communal area (including gardens), is a breach of your tenancy. This means action could be taken, and it could even result in you losing your home.
- SBC partners with Herts Police to investigate any reports of cannabis use at addresses throughout Stevenage. Our focus is to keep our community safe and support the wellbeing of all tenants.
- You don’t have to suffer in silence if cannabis use near you is affecting your quality of life. You can report anti-social behaviour related to cannabis use by calling 01438 242666 or using our ASB submission form on the Nuisance and Neighbour Disputes page.
