Sustainable Development
Sustainable development is about improving the quality of people’s lives whilst not damaging the local and global environment.
Our role
Local authorities can play a crucial role in sustainable development. We help drive sustainability by:
- acting as a community leader;
- supporting sustainable communities; and
- delivering sustainable services and operations.
Sustainability is important to us and we acknowledge our own role in helping to create a more sustainable Stevenage.
Environmental management policy
Our Environmental Management Policy Statement outlines our own role in helping to create a more sustainable Stevenage whilst providing information about the work we are doing to put sustainability into all our services.
Planning policy & sustainability

Our Design Guide covers sustainability in relation to new development in the town.
