Items we can and cannot collect

We can collect cookers, carpets, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, mattresses, tables, settees, free standing wardrobes, washing machines, beds, bicycles, fridges and freezers.

We cannot take business and commercial waste, builder's waste, kitchen units, bathroom suites, gas bottles, motor vehicle parts, asbestos, fencing panels and posts, sheds and greenhouses. However, we can offer assessed collections for items such as this or if you have a waste disposal licence you can register for our commercial tipping service.

Concessions

To be entitled to the concessionary rate you must provide proof that you are in receipt of a means tested benefit; Income support, Income based jobseekers allowance, Income related employment support allowance, Pension credit - Guaranteed credit, Working tax credit, Child tax credit, Universal credit or Housing benefit.

Booking a collection

Please take time to consider the list of items that you wish to dispose of before making your booking, amendments to bookings are not possible.

Items are to be left outside the property. We are unable to pick up from inside your property. If you require this service, please contact us for an assessed collection.

Changing or cancelling a collection

Collections cannot be changed once booked, you will need to cancel and rebook. To cancel your collection, please contact waste.household@stevenage.gov.uk with your bank details at least one working day before your collection. If you were logged in to your account when you booked, you can request a cancellation online in My Requests. All cancellations will incur a £15 administration fee.

Collections will be made between 7am and 12pm. We are not able to provide a more precise timeslot, but if all items are accessible to our team, you will not need to be at home at the time of pick-up.

Please note we are unable to provide a refund in the event of any items being taken by a third party prior to collection by us.

Assessed collection service

Some items excluded by the large items collection service can be removed by using the Assessed Collection Service.

An assessed collection can be arranged by contacting our depot at Cavendish Road on 01438 242323 and asking for Assessed Collections. Arrangements will then be made for the contractor to visit the location and give a price for the removal or disposal of the items.

If you choose to use a private company to dispose of your bulky waste, please ensure that they have a valid Waste Carriers Licence.
