Investing in Stevenage
Stevenage has an incredible amount to offer that makes it unrivalled as a place to invest in. As well as housing and commercial growth opportunities that will deliver 7,600 new homes by 2031, Stevenage hosts a diverse business community with highly skilled world-renowned companies such as GlaxoSmithKline, Airbus Defence & Space and MBDA based in the borough. The town is home to the £65m European HQ for Autolus, and there is a further 2 million square feet of consented R&D and GMP facilities due to begin on start, which includes an expansion of the GSK Campus.
Strategically located within Hertfordshire, Stevenage is well connected by road and rail networks. Access to King’s Cross in 19 minutes, Canary Wharf in 38 minutes, and Heathrow in 45 minutes, making it quicker to get into Central London from Stevenage than from some London Boroughs. Stevenage also boasts connections to the North as far as Edinburgh taking just over 4 hours journey time, and local journeys to Cambridge in under 40 minutes.
Due to Stevenage’s proximity to the A1(M), it offers excellent road connections at a regional level to Cambridge (45 minutes), London Heathrow (60 minutes) and Peterborough. Luton is located 15 miles to the west while Central London is 30 miles to the south.
A fifth platform has opened at the railway station, allowing increased services into London and the southeast. The Bus Interchange and Railway Station are connected by at-grade crossings and there is plenty of parking adjacent to this transport hub, with a new 622 space car park offering electric vehicle charging and secure cycle parking.
Furthermore, Stevenage is home to 45 kilometres of dedicated cycle networks. The introduction of an e-bike share scheme connecting the town centre to all areas of the borough – including Gunnels Wood Road, where many businesses are based – offers another way to travel.
There is a highly skilled and highly accessible talent pool for companies to dip into; the affordable property prices and promising job prospects attract top graduates to Stevenage, where they have a wide choice of industry-leading companies or exciting start-ups to begin a career with.
