Stevenage Borough Council is pleased to announce the completion of Brodie Court, a new Independent Living Scheme that aims to provide comfortable and modern accommodation for residents over the age of 60 years.

The council officially took handover of the building at the beginning of August, marking a significant milestone in providing quality living spaces for the community.

Last week, the first 11 residents moved into their new homes from Walpole Court. To celebrate this transition, a welcoming tea party was held at Brodie Court, bringing together residents, staff, and council representatives to enjoy refreshments and good company in their new home.

Councillor Jackie Hollywell, Cabinet Member for Housing and Housing Development said: “We are thrilled to see our new residents settling in at Brodie Court. This development represents our ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, affordable housing that meets the needs of our aging population. It provides a warm, homely feel where residents know they are safe and can live independently too.”

Brodie Court offers a range of facilities designed to promote independence while providing necessary support, ensuring that residents can enjoy their golden years in safety and comfort. The opening of this new scheme underscores the council’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life for older adults in the region.

The building has communal facilities on all floors each with a different theme, including a library, games room, television and music rooms, as well as a roof top garden to sit and relax with friends and family. There is also a convenient retail offering nearby, so residents do not have far to go to meet friends for a coffee at the café, get their hair done at the salon or pick up a newspaper from the well-stocked local convenience store.

There are a few new Independent Living Schemes in the pipeline for the council that will be delivered in the coming years. These will provide a fantastic opportunity for residents over the age of 60, living in larger properties, to downsize and free up much needed housing for our bigger families living in the area.
