Representatives from seven Stevenage organisations gathered to celebrate receiving grants from the Stevenage Works Community Chest Fund.

This is the fifth year of the Community Chest Fund in Stevenage, and since its initial launch in 2020, the scheme has helped 32 community groups, supporting dedicated local groups to make a difference in our community.

This year. the grants totalling over £11,500, were generously donated by six contractors working in Stevenage: Mulalley, Wates, Lovell Partnerships, Aaron Services, and Mace, along with EEM (Efficiency East Midlands). Their contributions are vital in supporting local community groups that provide invaluable services to residents.

The contractors collaborate with Stevenage Borough Council as part of the Stevenage Works group, delivering repairs, refurbishment projects, and regeneration initiatives. As well as creating local job and training opportunities, their support for initiatives like the Community Chest Fund show their commitment to enhancing Stevenage.

The cheque presentation was held at Daneshill House, opened by Councillor Richard Henry, Leader of the Council, and Councillor Jim Brown, the Mayor of Stevenage, and also attended by representatives of the donating contractors. Awards were presented to the following organisations:

  • St Nicholas Over 50s Community Group
  • Bedwell Rangers FC
  • Diamond Silver Service
  • Crossroads Caring for Life
  • Wellbeing Junction
  • TRACKS Autism
  • Stevenage FC Foundation

The Mayor, Councillor Jim Brown said:
“It’s an honour to present these grants to groups that make such a difference in our community. Their work touches so many lives, and this funding will enable them to continue their efforts. Thank you to everyone involved - it’s inspiring to see the impact of this collaborative working and the positive effect these groups have on the lives of our people.”

Leader of the Council, Councillor Richard Henry added:

"Our partnerships with local businesses and organisations have been instrumental in supporting our community groups through initiatives such as the Community Chest Fund. Together, we’re building a stronger community and a huge thank-you goes out to the contractors whose generosity makes this possible. Supporting local organisations and helping them to offer their services to our people is key when lots of residents are struggling in challenging times. It brings a real sense of belonging to our town and reiterates the kindness of people who live and work here. We look forward to even more local groups applying for next year’s funding.”
