A brand-new play area at Town Centre Gardens is set to officially open, with an open day taking place on Monday 24 March.

Stevenage Borough Council spent £250,000 on the site. Equipment for the new play area includes a group swing, activity trail, trampoline, an inclusive roundabout, and a bespoke pirate ship. The new play area can be used by children of different abilities, aged up to 16-years-old.

The council invited local children, young people, and pupils from Broom Barns to choose their top five items of play equipment they wanted to see at the site. These items were then included in the design.

The open day will start at 11am, and no booking is required.

Councillor Simon Speller, Cabinet Member for Environment, said:

“Once again, I’d like to thank everyone for their patience whilst the play area at Town Centre Gardens was closed.

“This is a popular and well-used site, and we wanted to make sure that the refurbished play area could be used and loved by children for years to come.

“I am delighted to see the project come to fruition and hope that the new play area is enjoyed by families now and in the future.”
