The council has launched a public consultation as part of a partial update of the Local Plan, which sets out a spatial vision for Stevenage up to 2031.

It also guides development across areas such as housing, infrastructure, the environment, and open spaces.

This partial update focuses on tackling urgent issues, including addressing the climate emergency, ensuring the town’s development is sustainable for future generations. The consultation, known as the Regulation 19 stage, is a key part of the process. It invites residents, businesses, and stakeholders to review the proposed updates before the draft plan is submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for examination.

Councillor Simon Speller, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Performance said:

"Our Local Plan is essential in shaping the future of Stevenage, ensuring that development meets the needs of our community and our environment while addressing pressing challenges like the climate emergency. By updating the plan, we are reinforcing our commitment to sustainability and creating a town fit for the next generation. We encourage everyone to have their say and help us shape a better future."

The consultation is open until 29 January 2025. Residents can access the draft plan, supporting documents, and helpful guides on Commonplace – the council’s dedicated consultation platform, where they can also submit their comments.
