Under the Licensing Act 2003, Stevenage Borough Council is the Licensing Authority and has responsibility for granting premises licences, club premises certificates, temporary event notices and personal licences in the borough in respect of the sale and/or supply of alcohol and the provision of regulated entertainment and late night refreshment.

At least every five years, the council must review and adopt a Licensing Policy Statement that details how the council will undertake its licensing functions. The current Licensing Policy Statement has been in effect since 26 February 2020 and therefore the council is undertaking a full review. The proposed policy statement will form the basis of the council’s decision-making for licensing alcohol and entertainment premises. This consultation is your opportunity to raise any issues that you think should be taken into account when considering applications and taking enforcement action.

The draft Licensing Policy Statement, with proposed revisions highlighted, is open to public consultation between 23 October and 20 November 2024.

You can view or download a copy of the document below.

All consultation responses must be in writing and submitted by midnight on 20 November 2024. Comments can be made by email to licensing@stevenage.gov.uk or by post to:
