Under the Gambling Act 2005, the council regulates the provision of premises for gambling (including betting shops, bingo halls and amusement arcades), the provision of gaming machines in clubs and alcohol licensed premises and small society lottery registration.

At least every three years, the council must review and adopt a Statement of Licensing Principles that details how the council will undertake its licensing functions. The current Statement of Licensing Principles has been in effect since 9 March 2022 therefore the council has undertaken a full review. The proposed statement of principles will form the basis of the council’s decision-making for licensing gambling premises. This consultation is your opportunity to raise any issues that you think should be taken into account when considering applications and taking enforcement action.

The draft Statement of Principles, with proposed revisions highlighted, is open to public consultation between 23 October and 20 November 2024.

You can download a copy of the document below.

All consultation responses must be in writing and submitted by midnight on 20 November 2024.
