Clampdown on verge parking

News Item Details

Date
10.30pm, 22 January 2008

Penalty Charge Notices will be issued in the St. Nicholas, Martins Wood and Pin Green areas of town to people who park on verges and footways.

This type of parking obstructs footways, damages grass and can cause accidents by blocking drivers’ views at junctions.

To help combat the problem in these areas we are running a trial under an Experimental Traffic Order. Parking attendants are enforcing verge and footway parking and issuing Penalty charge notices to offenders. Fines are fixed at £60 and are reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days.

The experimental order will run for 18 months and if successful will be made permanent and may then be rolled out to other areas of the town.
