Pride of Stevenage Awards
We all know people and organisations who have done their bit to help make Stevenage a great place to be. We want to reward them. Their stories show what we can achieve when people get together to make life better.
These awards are your chance to recognise and celebrate their work.
Prizes
The six winners will be invited to the Mayor’s civic reception in October to receive their special award. Each winner will also receive a generous prize of £500 from our sponsors:


Nominations
Apart from the So Inspiring Award (for talented young people in Stevenage) the nominees do not have to live in Stevenage but they must have a significant link with Stevenage and have:
- made an outstanding contribution to the town or
- made an exceptional personal achievement.
Judging
Judging will take place on 28 August 2008. The winners will be announced on 1 September 2008.
Nominations will be judged by a panel of 12 which includes members of the board of So Stevenage and members of the public.
Categories
There are 6 awards in all, to recognise the outstanding achievements of an individual person or an organisation in the following categories:
So Inspiring - shining from a young age
For young people under 18 who have made:
- a significant personal achievement or improvement in their chosen field such as sport, arts or academic subjects
- a major contribution to their community.
This category is open to nominations for individual young people only, not organisations.
So Healthy - making Stevenage healthy
Any organisation or individual that has worked to improve the health of Stevenage people through:
- sport
- leisure or community activities
- health education.
So Enterprising - supporting local business
For individuals or organisations that support and develop Stevenage businesses or improve employment prospects for local people.
So Green - improving the environment
For individual or organisations like schools or community groups that help keep Stevenage a clean, safe and green place. This includes work to reduce climate change.
So Caring - looking after other people
For caring for other people, fundraising for good causes or volunteering.
So Skilled - developing people’s skills
Any organisation or individual that encourages people to gain new skills to develop their potential or that provides support to learners of all ages.
This also includes people who give up their time to help at a school or a club.
