  • Local Development Framework

    The 2004 Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act introduced provisions to replace local plans with local development frameworks. This page provides details of the key changes made to the planning system and how the council is responding.

  • Local Plan

    The Stevenage District Plan Second Review was adopted in December 2004 and is the statutory plan for the whole of Stevenage

  • Supplementary Planning Guidance and Documents

    Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) and Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD) have been produced to supplement policies in the local plan. SPG are those documents produced under the 1990 Town and Country Planning Act while SPD are those documents produced under the new planning legislation, the 2004 Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act.

  • Gypsies and Travellers

    The Government places a duty on councils to undertake an accommodation assessment and to make provision for any identified Gypsy and Traveller needs.

  • Regional Planning

    A new Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) is being developed for the East of England (Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk).

    The Examination in Public (EiP) into the draft East of England Plan (the Regional Spatial Strategy for the East of England Region) was held between 1 November 2005 and 2 March 2006.
