Mr Norman - the Mods and Rockers conflict
'Yes the early 1960's was the Mods and Rockers scene. And I was a rocker...'
One occasion we was down the Locarno having a dance and some lads come to came in and we found out, eventually that they was Mods. They wanted to, they’d come down from London to cause trouble. We sorted them out and they said they were going to come back on the Sunday. On the Sunday we was ready for them a lot of the teenagers from Stevenage must have been about 500 all lined up waiting for them. About the time they said they were going to come about 20 scooters pulled up and just went straight off and that was the last we see of them. Yes the Locarno Ballroom they used to have talent, talent nights and there was one particular group very good they was called League of Gentleman, I haven’t heard of them since. This must have been about 1964.
