Get an object identified
We aim to identify any object within four weeks of your enquiry, either by the Curator or County Finds Liaison Officer. Whilst kept at the Museum, any object awaiting identification will be securely kept and cared for. Please note we cannot provide valuations.
Once identified the object or find needs to be collected within four weeks, if it has not be collected by three months of the identification date, the Museum reserves the right to dispose of the object concerned.
Metal detectors
The Museum encourages responsible use of metal detectors and can provide information to metal detectors on the Treasure Act.
The Museum also supports the Portable Antiquities Scheme, which aims to record archaeological finds found by the members of the public in England and Wales. Under this scheme, the Finds Liaison Officer for Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire can provide advice and information for any archaeological finds in the County.
