From Monday 18th September the Story of Stevenage galleries will close for refurbishment.
They will be closed for a period of 9 weeks while the museum team work on the redisplay of the Stevenage Story 1946 – present day.
The grand opening will be on Saturday November 18th 2006 by the Mayor of Stevenage at 12.00noon.
Some of the new gallery features will be a room set of a 1950’s kitchen and a record sound booth were you will be able to listen to sounds from each of the decades.
You will also be invited to plug in an extension on a 1950’s/60’s switchboard and listen to oral histories of people’s experiences of working in a brand new town.
If that’s not enough, why not take a ride on a bike and follow a video cycle route around Stevenage.
The museums temporary exhibition Tudor Times will remain open and staff will be on hand to answer questions from visitors.
Further updates will follow but in the meantime, for more information, please contact the Museum:
