Four artists from Stevenage are going to Zoetermeer in the Netherlands to celebrate the launch of a new book.
Entitled Culture in our Towns: Promoting Art and People, the book is a collection of their work and other artists’ throughout the European Union.
Contributors Anji Archer, Kimberley Bevan, Elizabeth Ejuone and Jon Falconer are members of the Digswell Arts Trust at Fairlands Valley Farmhouse.
They were invited to submit their work for the book last autumn. As part of the launch an exhibition displaying some of their work opens on Thursday 23 March at the Baztille Studios in Zoetermeer.
Upon arrival they will tour local studios and meet with fellow artists to discuss the role of artists in new towns.
The visit to the Netherlands, book and exhibition is funded by the European Union. Stevenage Borough Council helped the group to secure this funding just as it does for lots of other local organisations.
Executive Councillor for Resources Sharon Taylor said: “There are lots of funding opportunities available if you know where to look. We are keen to support the excellent work that local community and voluntary groups do for the people of Stevenage. Because of this we have a dedicated Funding Officer who can give professional advice and help with preparing and submitting a bid.”
Executive Councillor for Community and Culture Sue Myson said: “It’s a wonderful achievement for Stevenage to be recognised in this book. I’m delighted that the Council was able to help the Digswell Arts Trust take advantage of this opportunity by securing funding for them.”
