A chance to explore places of interest not usually open to the public or take a guided walk to find out about the history of the town.
Friday 8 September - Sunday 10 September is Heritage Open Weekend
All over the country this weekend buildings that are usually closed to the public are opening their doors and allowing you in. Here's what is going on in Stevenage. All events are free, you will need to book for some but if it does not say to book then please just turn up. If you have any suggestions for future heritage Open Days, please contact the Museum.
Bath House, Church Lane
Saturday 9 September and Sunday 10 September 11am-3pm
Imagine not having a bathroom in your home. Instead you might have to go to the Pubilc Baths, open on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons or Sunday morning when the shops are shut.
The Bath House in Old Stevenage was built in 1835 to house the town's fire engine, and converted into 4 cubicles in 1913. It closed in the late 1950s and can be seen today just as it was when the doors were last closed.
Coptic Orthodox Church
Sunday 10 September 1.30-2.30pm
Meet at the newly opened Coptic Orthodox Cathedral of St George. Hear about the history of the church and how it came to be at Shephalbury Manor, then take a tour of parts of the old manor house built in 1865.

Gordon Craig Theatre
Friday 8 , Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September at 10am each day.
A chance to see backstage at the town's theatre. Suitable for over 8s.
Please book at the Museum.
High Street tours
Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September at 11am and 2pm each day. Meet at Holy Trinity Church.
Guided walk of a typical old Hertfordshire small town High Street with many interesting buildings dating back to the 1700s and beyond.
St Mary's Shephall
Saturday 9 September 10am-6pm and Sunday 10 September 12noon-6pm. A talk on Sunday at 3pm.
An ancient church in a village green setting within the new town of Stevenage. Grade 2* listed although much restored witha 14th century chancel arch, 12th century bell and 5 Stanton monuments. Refreshments available.
St Mary's Aston
Saturday 9 September 10am-5pm
A pretty village church in Aston near Stevenage.
Springfield House, 24 High Street
Saturday 9 September 10am and 12noon
A chance to have a look around the building, which dates back over 400 years, with Hugh Madgin, a local history enthusiast.
