Front page of last week’s Comet - ‘It’s Rubbish’

News Item Details

You may have seen the front page of last week’s Comet newspaper. It suggested that the Council’s refuse collectors regularly block footpaths in The Paddocks with piles of bagged rubbish for several hours before it’s removed.

We have been watching this street over the last two weeks and the piles of rubbish are actually created by some local residents in advance of the collection crew’s arrival.

Our refuse collectors work very hard and do an excellent job to maintain our clean, green environment.  They do pile bags up prior to collection but are instructed not to block footpaths or leave it for more than an hour prior to removal.

Residents can help us by placing out their rubbish no earlier than the night before collection and by being careful not to obstruct the pavement.  If you are unable to put your rubbish out yourself as a result of serious long-term illness or disability telephone our freephone number: 0800 136661 and we will help.
