As part of Stevenage’s Britain in Bloom campaign we are giving residents useful information about their environment.
Environment Week is 29 May – 3 June, when there will be lots of exciting free events and activities, so why not come along and have a go!
Children’s Art Competition
Tuesday 29 May - Thursday 31 May
Bandley Hill, Pin Green and St Nicholas play centres
Children attending the play centres during the half term week will have an opportunity to create artwork with a wildlife and recycling theme. If you are between 5-14 years old come along and help out.
Exhibition and Judging
Friday 1 June
Fairlands Valley Park, 3.00pm
Come and enjoy the park, have an ice cream and admire the innovative artwork created by local children at some of our play centres. Their artwork will be on view at the Sailing Centre and Café Gardens. The Mayor of Stevenage and The Comet Editor Darren Isted will judge the artwork and present a trophy to the winner.
Recycling Road Show
Tuesday 29 May
Stevenage Town Centre 10.00am – 3.00pm
How green are you? Come along and talk to the experts for facts, advice and tips on:
- Recycling
- Composting
- Real nappies
Hanging Basket Workshops
Wednesday 30 May
Stevenage Garden Centre 10.00am – 3.00pm
Need inspiration and ideas for your hanging baskets, window boxes and containers this year? Come along for some expert tips and handy hints. Demonstrations start on the hour and half hour.
Woodland walk
Wednesday 30 May
Fairlands Valley Park 6.30 – 8.30pm
Why not spend a relaxing and interesting evening on a guided walk through Whomerley Wood and Shackledell Grass Meadow.
Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. No dogs please. Places are limited so book in advance.
Mini Beast Hunt
Thursday 31 May
Fairlands Valley Park 10.00am - 4.00pm
This is one just for the kids. Join us on a mini beast hunt, find out about the beast that you catch, and create a home for it. One-hour sessions start at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm. Children under 8 years must be accompanied by an adult. Places are limited so book in advance.
Allotment Open Days
Fancy having a go at allotment gardening but not sure where to start? It’s affordable, fun and a great way to improve your fitness. Plot holders will be at the following allotment sites to give you advice and tips:
