  • Councillors bowled over by the Buddies

    The Mayor of Stevenage, Cllr Michael Downing, joined other councillors last week on a visit to The Buddies, a local indoor bowling club for people with disabilities. The club meets from 10am till 12 noon every Monday and Thursday at Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre.

  • Fairlands named one of Britain's best parks

    Fairlands Valley Park has once again been named one of the best green spaces in the country and awarded a prestigious Green Flag. The accolade recognises the importance of Fairlands within Stevenage, its excellent facilities, well managed green space and amenities.

  • Stevenage continues to be in good health

    The proportion of adults in Stevenage who smoke has fallen over the last year from 29.2 per cent to 24.1 per cent. Meanwhile, the overall health of people living in Stevenage is generally similar to the average for England. These are some of the findings from the Health Profile 2010 which has been published by the NHS.

  • Come out to play on Play Day 2010

    On Wednesday 4 August, come out and celebrate children’s right to play at Playday with Stevenage Borough Council’s Play Section. All Play Centres and holiday playschemes will be providing free activities on the day for 5 to 14 year olds.

  • Children's art helps to get the recycling message across

    Children from Stevenage have been helping the Council spread the word about recycling and refuse collection by designing posters. The children were asked to design a poster which told people about the switch to alternative weekly collections for refuse as well as emphasising the importance of recycling. The winning entries are now on display on the sides of recycling freighters.

  • The benefits of working together

    Stevenage Borough Council and East Herts District Council have set up a joint management team for their Revenues and benefits services. The joint management team will work together across the two sites to explore the possibility of setting up a shared service between the two Councils.

  • New cycle map launched

    Stevenage Borough Council has published a handy pocket sized map of the town’s cycle routes. The map is available free of charge and is a comprehensive guide to Stevenage’s 45 km of cycle paths.

  • Have your say on the future of The Hyde and the Glebe

    Stevenage Borough Council is planning to redevelop two of the town’s neighbourhood centres. Work at The Hyde and The Glebe will begin in Spring 2011.Local people can come along and give their views at a special consultation afternoon which is being held at each centre. These are being held at –• The Glebe on Monday 19 July from 1pm to 6pm in shop number 13• The Hyde on Tuesday 20 July from 1pm to 6pm in shop number 7-9.

  • Work begins on Town Centre Gardens revamp

    Work to regenerate the Town Centre Gardens in Stevenage, which is being funded through a £1.77 million grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, will start later this month.

    Young people in Stevenage showed their sporting talents in the annual Hertfordshire Youth Games held last Saturday (26 June).

  • Noisy Neighbour Fined

    A noisy neighbour who ignored a notice requiring her not to play loud music has been fined at Stevenage Magistrates Court. Melanie Conway of 28 Salisbury Road in Stevenage pleaded guilty to two breaches of a Noise Abatement Notice and was fined £35 for each offence. She was also ordered to pay £200 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
