Implementing Electronic Government
In April 2000 the Government made a commitment to make all local government services electronically available by 2005 and to support Internet access for all - this is known as e-government.
E-government is fundamental to the Council's objectives. It will transform the way in which we are able to provide services to our customers and help us establish better links with the local community.
The Council has set the following e-government vision:
“Within five years, Stevenage Borough Council's services will be truly citizen-centred. Each of its customers will receive a “one stop experience” service for the great majority of his or her contacts with the Council.”
To deliver this vision the Council has an e-government strategy that will lead to a range of outcomes and services. One key element was the setting up of the customer service centre, whose primary purpose is to act as the interface between the customer and the Council
The Council regularly prepares an Implementing Electronic Government (IEG) Statement, which summarises progress to date and highlights future plans to achieve the e-Government vision.
